The Worst Kept Secret...

In the worst kept secret Councillor Dan McLean has announced in Conservative circles that he will be seeking the nomination for the United Conservative Party (UCP) in Calgary Shaw.

The nomination is expected in the summer due to former Minister and MLA, Rebecca Schulz retiring from elected office in May.

Despite Dan's vote to increase our taxes in this years budget, Dan McLean is one of the best City Councillors that the City of Calgary has ever seen. Dan is a great representative for Ward 13 and a spectacular spokesman for the City of Calgary.

Quite frankly, if Dan Mclean ran for Mayor he would have united all Calgarians and would have won handily!

With the election of solid conservatives such as Rob Ward (Ward 11), Mike Jamieson (Ward 12), Landon Johnston (Ward 14) and Dan McLean himself in Ward 13 we have a solid conservative foundation to build from at City Hall and next election we can elect a majority conservative council. Councillor Dan McLean is the elder statesman at city hall and has the experience to mentor these new Councillors.

We need Dan McLean to stay at city hall and keep his commitment to the voters of Ward 13 who elected him just a few months ago.

We are asking you to contact Councillor Dan Mclean and let him know that you appreciate him, ask him to fulfill his mandate and serve his full term at City Hall before jumping ship to the provincial level of government.

We ask you to call Councillor Dan McLean at 403-268-2290 and let him know you want him to stay at City Council.

More importantly we ask you to fill out the form below, hit send and Councillor Dan McLean and his staff will get the following letter:

An Open Letter to Councillor Dan McLean

Dan,

I am writing to you for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, I want to congratulate you on your overwhelming successful win. It was good to see that the conservatives in Ward 13 did not run a candidate against you and split your vote. We need to continue working together at City hall.

Your 16,339 votes was indeed a very clear mandate for you from the voters in Ward 13 and all of Calgary is solidly behind you.

However, in your first campaign you committed to serving your full term and not seek election to another level of government, forcing a by-election and costing taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Here are some things to consider:

  1. Ward 13 voted for you to represent them on City Council. Voters would not have re-elected you if they knew you would merely use them as a stepping stone in your taxpayer funded career.
  2. You were only re-elected months ago.
  3. You can't effectively represent the wishes of Ward 13 at City Hall while also seeking a nomination for the UCP in Calgary Shaw. This is a serious conflict of interest.
  4. The By-Election that you will force in Ward 13 will cost Calgarians, not just residents of Ward 13 upwards of $700,000. This is a serious waste of tax dollars. These monies can be put towards infrastructure such as sewers, roads, bridges and water-mains etc...
  5. You can't use your City Hall staff to help on your nomination campaign.
  6. By running in the Calgary Shaw nomination or any nomination for that matter is a disregard of what Calgarians elected you to do.

I feel that you are an effective, articulate Councillor and I ask that you continue with the mandate you were given and serve your full term.

Calgarians trusted you when we went to the ballot box and we trust you will do the right thing now and stay at City Hall.

Thank You
